Shark Awareness Day

Discover our Shark Tales

On 14 July 2024, we are celebrating Shark Awareness Day. These ancient and fascinating creatures dwell in the vast and mysterious realm of the oceans, where sunlight fades into the blue depths. Paul & Shark is telling a story in three chapters, which features several species of the brand's iconic animal. Three tales for three extraordinary shark specimens. A journey into the wonderful beauty and complexity of marine life.

Whale sharks, whose skin is adorned with white or light grey spots and stripes, are the world’s largest living fish and can grow to 18 meters in length, a weight of 34 tonnes and may live for 100 years. Found in tropical oceans around the world, they can be found swimming close to shore. Whale sharks can dive more than a kilometer deep and they migrate thousands of kilometers of away. Harmless to humans, divers call them the “Gentle Giants” and “Ambassadors of the Sea.

The second chapter of our “Shark Tales” is dedicated to the unmistakable hammerhead shark. Known for the unusual and distinctive structure of their heads, hammerhead sharks are found in coastal and pelagic regions in oceans the world over. Studies indicate that their peculiar flattened head might serve more than one function. Researchers believe this shape enhances the shark’s sense of electroreception, smell, manoeuvrability, and lift.

The last shark to feature in our “Shark Tales” is the tiger shark, which is distinguished by its dark striped skin reminiscent of a tiger's coat. One of the ocean’s top predators, they can reach lengths of up to 5.5 metres and can weigh up to a tonne. Scientists studying their behaviour have revealed that the tiger shark is a relaxed and at times lazy hunter. Though the tiger shark is thought to be a predominately coastal species, its geographic distribution includes all tropical and temperate waters around the world.
